Bike 1 (2001-2003): Running in Roadstocks trim, the bike - a Kawasaki ZX6R-J1 - was actually road legal. I bought it new in 2000 and ran it on the road for a year. It did it's first track day just after being run in with less than 500 miles on the clock and it was thrashed silly thereafter! Engine internals were totally standard, though it was fitted with a full Akropovic titanium race exhaust system. Re-jetted for the race system, it produced 106 BHP at the back wheel; pretty fit for a ZX6R apparently. Apart from regular dealer servicing and fresh fully synthetic oil every 2000 road miles (500 racing miles) the engine remained untouched.....just as well really, considering my lack of mechanical skills!
Bike 2 (2005): Again this racer started life as my road bike - an Aprilia Mille RSV-R. With just an Arrow end can and well set up suspension, it went in to battle as a virtually stock 2001 Aprilia Mille-R in New Era Sound of Thunder Clubmans Championship! No surprise then that it was one of the slowest bikes on the grid! It pumped out just 121 BHP at the back wheel. I suspect some of the sharper tools on the grid were nudging 140 BHP+! Oh well!
